There is an old Chinese saying: "Read hundreds of rolls (books), and travel thousands of miles." I like this saying very much. That's why I choose to work in the travel industry. When I was a student, in high school and also at university, I took every opportunity to travel around in China. This helps me a lot when I plan tour routes for my clients. I very much enjoy communicating with travelers from all over the world and introducing my beautiful homeland to my friends (most of whom I never meet in person). When not working at my computer, I spend time hiking. I am glad that Guilin is a hiker's paradise. Would you like to come and join me? |

Like most women, I like shopping, listening to music and reading romantic stories. However, my favorite pastime is traveling. I enjoy going back to nature, breathing the fresh air at the top of a mountain or walking barefoot on the beach. I am also proud of the long history of my country and want to share its beauty and history with friends from all over the world. That is why I chose a career as a travel agent. Trust me, I will show you a beautiful, traditional and exotic China through my detailed and thoroughly prepared travel arrangements. |

There is nothing more beautiful than the rivers and mountains in our nation, in our world, except the people living in this nation, in this world. I love all the rivers and mountains as well as you, no matter whether you come to China or not, which has been named as a magic land in the world. The American philosopher Emerson said," if you want to keep yourself near to nature, just keep your eyes transparent and keep close to her." It means that you’d better visit here and there to taste, to enjoy and to learn about nature and the people of the world. Nature brings us lots of common and unusual things, different places have different features and joys, and so if you come to China, you will be surprised by thenumerous wonders. Confucius said:"It is very pleasant that I have friends coming from afar". Maybe you come from Europe, maybe you come from Africa or Asia, wherever you come from, you are my friends. Therefore, choose your time, your destination, your wishes, you will be warmly welcomed! |

Facing difficulties, I won’t flinch, but conquer it with patience, seriousness, and self-confidence. Then with a sweet smile on my face! My motto is “If you think you can, you can!” I encourage myself all the time when I meet problems, and I believe that self-confidence is a key to solving problems. Sweetness was born in self-confidence, and came from the sweet smile on my face! |

I am from Hobart in Tasmania (Australia), and I arrived in Guilin at the end of August 2004. Working as a volunteer with CHT is a wonderful experience, which I highly recommend. How did it happen?I was researching a planned trip to China when I saw the opportunity to volunteer on the Chinahighlights website. This offered a chance to become part of a community, as well as the opportunity to contribute some of my own expertise.
I have been made extremely welcome, and the work is both rewarding and enjoyable. Of course there are challenges, but these are more than outweighed by the warmth of my welcome, the helpfulness and friendliness of my hosts. It is a great way to travel! The work will continue to be there long after I have returned to Hobart, and I would be happy to talk to anyone who is thinking of coming here as a volunteer.
My own background over the past few years has been in project management, involved in major corporate projects including some years as a senior project manager. However, my original training includes a BA in philosophy and literature, and a Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).I have a broad range of experience ranging from editing and public relations to hop-growing and long distance sailing (during my long distant youth!).
I have always been a keen traveller, and I believe passionately in the value of international exchange and understanding. Spending three months here as a volunteer, in a pleasant apartment and a beautiful city I realise that I am probably getting back far more than I am giving.
